France Prepares Draft Resolution For Recognizing Taliban As New Afghan Regime

While the world is still adjusting to the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, France has set conditions for the recognition of the Taliban as the new rulers of Afghanistan. However, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Paris said that they are expected to “deeds” and not just “words”.

Foreign Ministry Is Looking For Largest Possible International Consensus 

A statement released by the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Paris said on Monday that they are working towards forming the largest possible international consensus on the subject of the Taliban’s regime over Afghanistan. The country’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian had set five conditions regarding the recognition of the Taliban government.

  • Respect for humanitarian law, to allow some Afghans to leave the country
  • Clarity vis-a-vis terrorist movements
  • Respect for rights, particularly for women
  • Acceptance of Humanitarian aid on Afghan territory
  • Constitution of an inclusive government

France To Discuss Matters With Other Countries Regarding Taliban 

The spokesman said that their common objective is to guarantee the continuation of the humanitarian evacuations of all people threatened because of their commitments and the ones who wish to leave the country.

He added that the meaning of the meetings being held with the G7 and the United Nations Security Council, they are carrying a resolution to the situation with the US, UK, and Germany. Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron spoke to the journalists on Sunday.

He said that Paris and London would present a draft resolution for the development of a “safe zone under UN control” within the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul. This would allow the humanitarian operations to continue in the country.

As per the reports, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in convening a meeting on Afghanistan with Britain, France, the US, China, and Russia who are the Security Council’s permanent members.
So far, France had evacuated around 3000 people from Afghanistan before its operations ended on August 27.
