Free shuttle service offered by Osmania University for girl hostelers

With the launch of a free campus bus shuttle service, Centenary Women’s Hostel boarders who used to trek long distances to reach Colleges on campus can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Prof. D Ravinder, OU Vice-Chancellor, launched the bus shuttle service for students on Wednesday, facilitated by Vishwa Vishwani Educational Society. The buses will operate on select routes and transport students.

In the past, students were demanding such transportation facilities due to the difficulties they faced in reaching their colleges from the hostel, particularly during the summer.

“The shuttle service from Centenary Hostel for Girls to the various departments will ease the transportation problem,” Prof. Ravinder said. Prof. P. Laxminarayana, OU Registrar, thanked the donors Vishwa Vishwani for their support.

OU to launch student reading room complex

It will soon be possible for students at Osmania University (OU) to prepare for different recruitment and competitive exams round-the-clock with the university setting up a reading room complex on campus.

There will be a new facility that will provide reading material for various competitive exams at the Civil Services Academy; this facility will be available only to students at the campus and its constituent colleges.

Due to the State government’s announcement of 80,039 unfilled vacancies in various departments, the university is renovating the workshop on campus to establish the Civil Services Academy for a cost of Rs.39 lakh. Work on the same has begun and it is expected to be open to students in a month.

In addition to the reading room complex, the university is planning to build four new women’s hostels, since women’s enrollment has increased proportionately in recent years. Additionally, two new hostels have been proposed for men.

Besides taking on building maintenance, the varsity has proposed the construction of a new administrative building and the construction of a pylon/centenary memorial.
