GHMC halts Covid-19 booster dose drive temporarily

As per the latest reports, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has temporarily paused its initiative to deliver Covid-19 booster doses to people over the age of 60 who have pre-existing comorbidities.

The booster dosage will not be provided on February 27, 28, and March 1 due to the city’s Pulse Polio Immunization programme. On January 31, the civic body began the notion of providing vaccines at the doorstep, people can dial 040-21111111 to benefit from the free service.

Over 150 senior citizens were given Covid-19 booster dose at home

More than 150 individuals over the age of 60 with pre-existing comorbidities have got the Covid-19 booster dose at their homes since the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) began administering vaccines at the doorsteps of senior citizens on January 31.

Since its inception, 580 requests have been received, according to GHMC officials, who added that they were collecting information from callers, categorizing them by zone, and transferring the data to mobile vaccination teams. The moving vaccination teams are designing a route map and giving vaccines based on this data.

The vaccination-at-the-door approach was implemented on the orders of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao and Health Minister T Harish Rao.

Beneficiaries are being registered on the spot as part of the exercise. People do not need to register for the CoWIN application and can simply show their Aadhaar card as identification.

Officials said that for information about Covid-19, users could call the same GHMC helpline number.

Covid-19 containment efforts, such as house-to-house fever surveys, are also underway within the GHMC limits, as part of which details of people with fever are being collected and home isolation kits are being distributed as needed.
