GHMC squads fell 20 illegal structures

Hyderabad: Getting tough towards illegal constructions and encroachments, the GHMC enforcement wing has pulled down 20 constructions and some other structures that were in a dilapidated condition. These included five constructions that were built across a nala in violation of norms.

The State government has recently formed an exclusive and well-equipped disaster management, vigilance and enforcement wing to meet challenges during natural calamities, crack the whip against illegal constructions and to protect government land from encroachments. The GHMC demolished illegal buildings on Saturday.

The GHMC in a pressnote said it has appointed an IPS officer as director of the disaster management, vigilance and enforcement wing with the force, including an additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, two inspectors and two sub-inspectors. A separate force for city lakes and GHMC assets protection will also to be formed within the new disaster management wing.

The Vigilance enforcement wing has also been equipped with eight Quick Reaction Teams, and has been provided with 16 special vehicles of which eight will be used for enforcement and another eight for disaster management. The GHMC has also allotted 44 outsourced workers who were with its street lighting unit to the new wing and they were being imparted training in disaster management on a daily basis. Efforts were on also to procure required paraphernalia for monsoon and disaster management and for the first time, a special manual on the role and responsibilities of different departments during the disaster management in the city has been prepared.
