GHMC transforms dumping sites into food courts

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has transformed a black spot, deserted street, and garbage dump site into a lively street with food joints on one side and dining areas on the other.

The main goal of opening a food street was to create jobs. The establishment of food joints along the once sleepy street has provided work for several unemployed youths from the neighborhood.

Those who want to start a street food business must pay Rs 19,500 to the civic body and become the owner of the food stall. Mohd Shareef, one of the recipients, stated that he received an idli and dosa stall in the Vijay Nagar colony.

“Previously, the road was in poor condition, but the MLA cleaned it up and installed the stalls.” I was unemployed, but now I have the stall and I am employed,” Shareef explained. He also thanked the government of K Chandrashekar Rao and the MLA of the area for giving the employment opportunity.

Another beneficiary, Mohd Ghouse, stated that there was a lot of garbage on the roadside, but the area’s MLA had it cleaned up with the intention of converting the area into Food Street.

“I got the food stall with help of Jaffer Hussain. There was a lot of garbage before, and they cleaned it several times, but the MLA had devised a plan to turn the area into Food Street. Unemployed people like us were given jobs after it was transformed into a food street. We thank the Telangana government for providing us with the opportunity to work,” he added.
