Give us written reply on paddy, rice: TS Ministers

A team of ministers and MPs from Telangana today called on Union Minister Piyush Goyal and sought him to give a written reply and promise to procure paddy and rice issues from the state. The ministers S Niranjan Reddy, Kamalakar, Dayakar Rao, MP Keshava Rao, Nama Nageshwar Rao, and others met with Goyal and sought a written reply and justice to the state with regard to paddy and rice stocks.

However, there is no breakthrough as Goyal denied reportedly giving any written reply as sought by the state. He instructed the state to supply the remaining stocks to the Centre which will get stocks as agreed earlier, it is learned.

The meeting by the Ministers’ team gets important as Piyush Goyal and other Union Minister Kishan Reddy slammed the state government for telling lies and not supplying the stocks yet. The Ministers spoke for about 45 minutes with the Union Minister and briefed the prevailing situation in the state on farmers’ issues. The Ministers and MLAs staged protests in the state against the Centre for not lifting paddy and rice.

Keeping this in view, the state team of Ministers and MPs discussed with Goyal and urged him to give a written reply on how much quantities of paddy they will procure in Yasangi including parboiled and raw rice in the future. They reportedly informed the Centre that they procured the grains and sent them to the godowns and FCI has to get the same.

On this, the union minister said that the state is yet to supply 37.09 lakh mt of parboiled and raw rice to the centre or FCI godowns. First, clear the stocks by sending the same and we will procure the stocks as agreed and promised, Goyal replied. Goyal reportedly said that the Centre is ready to get stocks of raw rice and parboiled rice only 20 lakh mt tons which are only from Telangana state. The Centre is ready to protect the interests of the farmers and the state should stop falsehood, Goyal said.

We will take only raw rice in any quantities and the state should supply the parboiled and raw rice he said. On this, the team of the ministers and MPs sought a written reply from Piyush Goyal to convince the farmers who are told to take up alternative crops. On this the ministers expressed displeasure and said that the farmers will fight against the Centre on the same.
