“Go corona go” fame Union Minister urges People to boycott Chinese food

New Delhi: In a bid to spurt the anger against China, Union Minister RamdasAthawale has adviced people against eating Chinese food. The statement came following the violent clash of the Indian army with the Chinese counterpart in the Galwan Valley leading to casualties in both sides. The Junior Minister for Social Justice said that indians need to cease consuming Chinese food along with boycott of the China made products and equipment, aiming to crash it’s market in India.

“My suggestion is that restaurants and hotels that sell Chinese food should be shut down. I also request those who eat Chinese food to stop eating them, boycott them,” MrAthawale told news agency ANI.

After the faceoff on Monday which led to fatalies for the first times in decades between the Indian and Chinese armies started over an objection to a tent made in the Indian territory, officials and military commanders of both the countries are discussing ways and treaties to calm the situation and avoid any future tensions.

“In such a time when our 20 soldiers were killed by the Chinese and they disrespected us, my request is that everyone should stop eating Chinese food. All the states must give an order to ban Chinese restaurant and hotels,” the Union Minister told ANI.

The 60-year-old Republican Party of India leader, who lives in suburban Bandra in Mumbai, was seen in a video chanting “go corona, go corona” in February along with a group of associates repeating it after him.

“They should stop doing these activities (on the border). They have no right to come on our border, ‘humareaangan me unkakyakaamhai (what is their job in our area)? If we are not attempting to control your area, why are you doing so?” he added.

A few officials supported the Junior Minister’s suggestions although many others called it an impractical comment as the widely available Chinese food in India is not even entirely of Chinese origin. Moreover, the people who run most of these restaurants are Indians and will be at stake to lose their jobs if the businesses are shut due to this suggestion.

Posts of people showing their anger on the Made-in-China products at their home are doing the rounds on social media. They are seen throwing their expensive TV screens from their balconies to destroy them while some posted videos of burning Chinese electronics to show their protest towards the Chinese violence.

There have been calls to stop using mobile apps and other software with their roots in China, such as the video-sharing app TikTok.

Through a similar policy, the central government has decided to rule out the use of Chinese equipment in the upgradation of 4G equipment of the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd or BSNL.

“The Telecom Ministry has planned to ‘firmly tell BSNL’ against usage of Chinese equipmentciting security issues,” a source from the government said.
