Government promises safeguarded e-passports launch in Lok Sabha

As per the latest reports, the information of the soon-to-be-launched e-passport will be safeguarded through complex digital protection, the government has guaranteed the Lok Sabha.

The External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, while reacting to questions brought by MPs up in the Lower House, said the reason to issue such e-passport is to make travel simpler and smoother, and furthermore to guarantee better security of the information of the visa holder.

“The information will be placed into a chip through a personalization interaction and it will require a specific printer to print it. There will be advanced keys that will guarantee the wellbeing and security of the information like computerized marks. This way there will be numerous layers of safety,” Jaishankar said because of inquiries on the information security of the e-passport.

Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor’s brought the issue up in the Parliament, requesting that the government explain network protection connected with e-passport by saying that it will be perilous to issue something like this with next to no earlier check. Around 4.5 crore chips for such RFID and biometrics-based identification will be requested soon. The government will probably begin giving e-passports inside the next half year.
