“Grandparents Would Take Better Care Of Their Grandchildren”; SC Ends Custody Battle Over Covid Orphan

The Supreme Court today conceded the guardianship of a six-year-old kid, stranded in the destructive second wave of Covid last year, to his fatherly grandparents, expressing that in Indian culture, the paternal grandparents generally take “better care” of their grandkids.

The kid lost both his parents on May 13 and June 12, 2021 separately in Ahmedabad and later his guardianship was allowed to his maternal auntie by the Gujarat High Court.

Saving the high court’s choice, the top court bench headed by Justice MR Shah said, “In our society the paternal grandparents would always take better care of their grandson. They are more emotionally attached to grandchildren and the minor will get a better education in Ahmedabad in comparison to Dahod.”

The bench, in any case, said the maternal auntie can have appearance privileges and meet the child according to his comfort.

It said pay can’t be the sole rules to prevent the care from getting the kid to the fatherly grandparents. The high court had noticed that the kid was OK with the grandparents.
