Harsh TV debates irk EC Serves notices to Harish, Revanth, others

Hyderabad: Unhappy at the debates in some of  the vernacular television channels airing personal comment and foul language by the political leaders in the poll bound Telangana state,   the Election Commission  EC served notices to the leaders of both the ruling party and that of the opposition parties  after  receiving complaints.

The EC sought reply in two days from TRS leader T Harish Rao, Congress leaders A Revanth Reddy, R V Prathap Reddy, TD leader R Prakash Reddy. Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar served the notices to the leaders and sought reply in just two days.

Rajat Kumar expressed displeasure at a press conference at Secretariat here that the political leaders are indulging in harsh language as it violated the model code in the state going for polls on Dec 7. The leaders are resorting to bad comments against each other which will not comply with the EC norms. The debates in some television channels are very harsh and people not able to watch them he felt. The EC has instructed the media to follow restraint while conducting debates of the political parties during the elections as the debates should not malign the environment of fair polls,  he said. The political parties should desist from making personal comments, personal abuse and foul language the CEO said.

The Chief Electoral Officer served the notices to the leaders and sought reply in  two days and warned of serious action if  they failed to follow the election code and stop making personal accusations and using bad and foul language. The EC has received some complaints from the political parties against each other and we have served notices he added. The EC on finding guilty of criminal background will take action against the leaders for failing to file their details to it and in media as sought,  he said.(NSS)
