High Court Asks Govt to Take Decision on Weekend Curfew

Telangana High Court today asked the state government to take a decision on the imposition of weekend curfew in the state or increase in the schedule of the lockdown by keeping in view of a growing number of Covid 19 cases in the state. It asked the government to take the decision before the 8th of this month.

 

The HC passed these orders while dealing with a batch of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the issue of the spread of the virus. The DGP of the state M. Mahender Reddy and the director of the directorate of public health Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao appeared before the HC during the hearing of the case. Expressing its displeasure over the conduct of less number of Covid 19 tests, the HC asked the government to conduct one lakh teats every day. It asked the government to fix the maximum price to be charged by private hospitals for the Covid treatment besides asking it issue guidelines on the issue.

The HC further asked the state government how many tests it conducted through Mobile Covid Centers. It asked the government to set up toll-free numbers in all the districts of the state in the same way as it did in GHMC limits.

Talking about the vaccination program to the homeless and the jail inmates,  The HC asked the government how it would administer the vaccines to the homeless and the jail inmates. The director Srinivasa Rao told the HC that the Tamil Nadu government was obstructing the transportation of oxygen from Sriperumbudur, the HC asked the central government to take steps for the transportation of the oxygen not only from Sriperumbudur but also all parts of the country.

It also asked the state government to constitute an expert committee in two days’ time on the issue of coronavirus and submit the details of the meetings of the experts’ Committee besides providing the details of crematoria and facilities available at them. It said that not more than 200 people should attend family functions and not more than 50 people should take part in funeral ceremonies. It asked the state government to issue a GO on the issue .

The HC said that Police help Centers should be set up at all hospitals of the state and added that the issue of the seizure of the vehicles of those who don’t wear face masks should also be considered. The HC said that the government should focus on providing special powers to the police and added that the government should act in a tougher manner on those who indulge in the illegal sale of medicines. It said that surprise inspection should be held at all grounds, parks, function halls.

The DGP told the HC that the they had set up 859 patrolling team and 1523 vehicles to ensure the proper implementation of Covid 19 rules in the state . He said that they were also filing cases against those organizations which are not following social distancing norms.
