Hyderabad: In connection with the International Elders’ day celebrations, some elderly people will be honoured at a function to be held at Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan, Kothapet here, at 11.30 am on October 8.
Celebrations committee organizer R Gopal, announced this at a media meet at NSS here today. He demanded that the pension for elderly people should be increased to Rs.5,000 per month each, and the Government should set up Home for the aged in all the Assembly constituencies. He said the committee would breing pressure on the Central and state Governments to solve the problems of elderly people and to ensure that they lead a respectful life.
He said that the ‘National Vayoshree’ programme should be implemented effectively and the eligible people should be provided with walkers, wheel chairs, spectacles, hearing aids, etc. Other members of the committee G Kranti, Kandula Ramu, Jillela Krishna, K Laxman, Md Hafeez were also present.
