HMWS&SB safety protocol vehicles launched by KTR

KT Rama Rao, Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, launched the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) safety protocol vehicles on Saturday.

The purpose of these vehicles is to ensure the safety of the staff involved in operating and maintaining the city’s sewerage system and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). To improve safety measures, the HMWS&SB has also formed six safety protocol teams.

HMWS&SB stated in a press release that these teams will visit all locations where work on water pipelines, sewerage lines, cleaning of manholes, and installing STPs is underway.

In addition, a new surveillance system has been developed at all work sites to ensure efficient work on water pipelines, sewerage lines, leakage prevention, and manhole repairs.

Following an inspection of the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) construction across the city, KTR reported that the 1259 Million Litres per Day (MLD) treatment capacity of the STPs will be completed by 2023.

In Hyderabad, KTR examined the progress of ongoing Sewerage Treatment Plant construction on Saturday.

KTR tweeted that he monitored the progress of ongoing sewerage treatment plant construction across various sites in Hyderabad.

STPs with 1259 MLD capacity of treatment will be completed by summer 2023, possibly making Hyderabad the first city to treat 100% of its sewage, said KTR.

The construction of 31 decentralized Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) will bring Hyderabad’s sewage treatment capacity to 100 percent.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is currently constructing 31 STPs with a capacity of 1259 MLD at a cost of Rs 3866 crores.

In Hussain Sagar catchment areas, including Fateh Nagar, Pariki Cheruvu, Vennelagadda, Shivalaya Nagar Khajakunta, and Mullakatuva Cheruvu, 17 STPs of 376 MLD are being constructed.

These will address the sewerage problem in Hussain Sagar, explained Sridhar Babu, project director at HMWS&SB.
