Home Minister Mahmood Ali asks police to strictly prevent sale of spurious seeds

State Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali has directed Telangana police to be vigilant and strict in their efforts to prevent the sale of spurious seeds. On Friday, the Home Minister held a video conference with police officers from all districts at the Dr. BR Ambedkar Secretariat. Mahmood Ali, along with Home Secretary Jitender and DGP Anjani Kumar, briefed the SPs and Police Commissioners of all districts on the threat of spurious seeds.

He stated that some people were attempting to sell spurious seeds while farmers were preparing for the upcoming Kharif season. He stated clearly that police officers should gather information in collaboration with the state Agriculture Department and intelligence personnel and take strict action against sellers of adulterated seeds.

He also stated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was continuing farmer benefit schemes to strengthen the farming sector in the state. He stated that at a time when welfare schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, and agricultural loan waiver have brought light into the lives of farmers, they must be protected from being harmed by spurious seed sellers. He stated that the Telangana Police Department had many successes and gained national recognition, and that police officers should act strictly in this regard.

The Home Minister explained the importance of protecting the state’s farmers. Following the formation of Telangana state, 986 cases were filed against the sale of fake seeds.

In connection with these, 1938 people were arrested and PD Act was booked against 58 people. The Home Minister stated that constant vigilance is required to completely deter the sale of fake seeds. Similarly, those caught smuggling liquor from other states would face legal consequences.

State DGP Anjani Kumar stated that while this type of crime is decreasing due to the measures taken by police officers, they should take the initiative to completely eradicate the spurious seed menace. He gave the necessary instructions to the district SPs and Commissioners. DIG Karthikeya explained how liquor is smuggled from border districts. The police have been advised to keep a close eye on those who smuggle liquor from other states. Additional DGP Sanjay Kumar Jain, IGP Shanwaz Qasim, SPs Vijayakumar, Venkateshwarlu and others participated.
