Hong Kong Releases Stricter Guidelines for UK Travellers; Delta Variant on Rise

As the world continues to struggle with the coronavirus and its variants, the Hong Kong government announced that the quarantine requirement for UK travellers will be tightened from June 28.

Hong Kong Fears Delta Variant in UK

With the rising concerns of the Delta variant across the world, the Hong Kong government announced stricter quarantine rules for the travellers from the United Kingdom. The government released a statement on Thursday. They said that decision has been taken in the view of the recent rise in the pandemic cases in the UK along with the spread of the Delta variant.

At the same time, Hong Kong also saw a rise in the cases of L452R virus strains in the people who came from Britain or the ones who were in quarantine. The government will also be changing UK classification from “high-risk” place to “very high-risk”, which will be in effect from June 28.

Under the new quarantine guidelines, people boarding from the UK to Hong Kong will have to present a negative test result of the nucleic acid test conducted within 72 hours before the time of departure. Along with the confirmation of room reservation in a designated quarantine hotel in the city.

Following the confirmation of negative results at the Hong Kong International Airport, the travellers will be required to board their designated transport to proceed to the quarantine hotels for a 21-day compulsory quarantine. During the quarantine period, four tests will be conducted along with a seven-day self-monitoring period and a compulsory test on the 26th day of arrival.

Hong Kong Bans Flights From Indonesia

The above move comes a day after Hong Kong announced banning passenger flights from Indonesia from Friday. They said that the decision is taken as the country’s arrivals deem an “extremely high risk” for the Covid 19.

Late Wednesday, the government said that they will be suspending flights after the number of Covid 19 cases from Indonesia crossed the numbers set by the Global Financial Club.

Previously, Hong Kong had already banned flights from India, Nepal, Pakistan and Philippines.
