HSL incident, AP government announces compensation

Amravati: The Andhra Pradesh government today announced the compensation to the kith and kin of the victims of the HSL incident.

The state Minister Avanti Srinivas has said in Vishakhapatnam that the families of the victims of the Hindustan shipyard accident will be given compensation of Rs 50 lakh rupees each by the state government. The minister held talks with officials and workers on the compensation issue.

Srinivas pointed out that one of the members of the families of the contract workers would be given compensatory employment on contract in the firms while One of the family member of a permanent employee who has lost his life member of will be given a government job as well as the benefits coming through HSL.

A fatal accident took place at the Hindustan Shipyard yesterday. Heavy crane worker kills 11 Many were injured. While inspecting the newly purchased crane it suddenly collapsed.

A departmental inquiry committee headed by the director was convened to establish the causes leading to the incident. An FIR has lodged at Malkapuram police station. This accident occurred yesterday in which Eleven personnel, including four permanent employees of HSL, lost their lives when a huge new crane collapsed on them at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL).

The Hindustan shipyard said in a statement that on Saturday at around 1130 hrs, load testing of the crane was being carried out by contractor Green Field and other workers.

The police said that nine workers were crushed to death under the heavyweight crane while another, who was seriously injured, succumbed to injuries at a hospital where the injured were undergoing treatment. The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led state government ordered the probe of this incident and today it has announced the compensation to the kith and kin of the victims.
