Huzurabad By-Elections to Be Held on October 30 EC Issues Election Schedule

Stage is set for holding the much talked about Huzurabad Assembly constituency by-election. The Election Commission (EC) of India has issued the election schedule to hold the by-elections on October 30 next month.

The election notification will be issued on October 1. The last date for filing the nominations is October 8. The scrutiny of the nominations will be done on  October 11. The last date for the withdrawal of the nomination papers is October 13. The results of the by-elections will be declared on November 2. The by-elections were necessitated due to the resignation of former Minister Etela Rajender on June 4. The Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy accepted the resignation on June 12. The suspense over the holding of the by-elections has been continuing ever since the acceptance of the resignation of the former Minister.

The ruling TRS party and opposition BJP have been carrying out blitzkrieg election campaigns in Huzurabad since the last three months. However the suspense continued as the by-election have delayed to the constituency. The EC had thought of postponing the elections for some time  following the reports of the spreading of the third wave of Covid virus .

The ruling TRS party has announced the candidature of the party leader Gellu Srinivas Yadav. The BJP has declared the former Minister Etela Rajender as its candidate. However, the opposition Congress has not yet declared its candidate so far. Etela tendered resignation to his post following his expulsion from state cabinet by CM of the state KCR.

EC imposes restrictions

The EC has imposed restrictions for carrying out the election campaign in the by-elections. It asked those who carry out the election campaign to wear face masks for the prevention of the Covid virus. It said that it was allowing five members including the contesting candidate for carrying out door to door campaign. It imposed ban on holding road shows during the election campaign. It also said that the election campaign should be stopped 72 hours before the elections. It said that the indoor meetings should be held with 200 people.

The ruling TRS party is very strong in the Huzurabad Assembly seat. The TRS leadership had announced the candidature of Srinivas Yadav months before the elections as part of its strategy and in order to woo BC voters. It also welcomed Congress party leader Padi Kaushik Reddy into fold. The ruling party did not stop here.

It appointed a leader from the Huzurabad constituency as the chairman of SC corporation. The ruling party had launched the revolutionary dalitha bandhu scheme in Huzurabad seat. The launch of the scheme will help the ruling party in the upcoming by-elections.
