Hyderabad: Cleaning up of graveyards undertaken on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat

On the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, the Waqf board’s chief executive officer has directed the ‘Khabrastaan committees’ across the twin cities to undertake cleaning up of the graveyards.

On and after Shab-e-Barat (the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday), many Muslims visit graveyards to pay their respects to the departed souls.

Cleaning up debris, cutting down overgrown bushes, and clearing garbage in the corners of these yards, as well as equipping the areas with lights and water facilities for the convenience of visitors, have been undertaken by managing committees.

Many yards were also seen to have their graves and boundary walls painted.

While restoration work has accelerated in preparation for the big night, several graveyard committee members have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of funds from the GHMC.

Mohammed Hasham, head of the graveyard committee of Eidgah Miralam, a 70-year-old-graveyard cemetery, reportedly revealed that funds for the tidying up of the yard on the occasion haven’t been sanctioned, unlike every year.

However, after a period of waiting, they completed the process at their own expense and installed lights in various locations throughout the yard to ensure clear visibility.

Police on alert for Holi and Shab-e-Barat

Tri-commissionerates of Hyderabad, Rachakonda, and Cyberabad are on high alert following two important religious gatherings for Shab-e-Barat and Holi on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

The police chiefs have directed their officers to keep a close eye on their jurisdictions beginning Monday night and continuing until Wednesday evening.

To avoid any trouble, the Rapid Action Force and other police riot control teams will be deployed in all sensitive areas. Already, the Task Force and Special Operations Teams have warned rowdy sheeters that they will face harsh punishment if they try to disrupt law and order.

While Shab-e-Barat and Holika Dahan will be observed on Tuesday night, the Holi festival will be celebrated the next day.

Beginning Tuesday night, a large number of people from different communities will flock to the streets. On Shab-e-Barat, Muslims traditionally visit graveyards until late at night. Police officers are stationed at important graveyards in the city.
