Hyderabad Constituencies Witness Surge in NOTA Votes in Telangana Elections

Several constituencies in Hyderabad had a significant increase in ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA) votes in the recently concluded 2023 Telangana elections, with some receiving over a thousand votes in this category.

The Secunderabad Assembly constituency, currently represented by Padma Rao of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), received the most NOTA votes. Similarly, among the constituencies represented by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Akbaruddin Owaisi’s Chandrayangutta assembly constituency received the largest number of NOTA votes.

Secunderabad had the highest NOTA count of the 15 constituencies in the Hyderabad district, while Nampally, currently represented by Mohammed Majid Hussain of AIMIM, had the lowest.

The implementation of the NOTA in 2009 gained significance during the 2013 assembly elections and has continued to draw attention. NOTA received more votes than the victory margin in certain cases, demonstrating its growing popularity among voters.

In the 2023 Telangana elections, a significant number of constituencies in Hyderabad and other districts received more than 1000 NOTA votes, reflecting a growing trend of voters choosing the ‘None of the Above’ option to express dissatisfaction or disagreement with the available options.
