Hyderabad Emerges as Top City for Purchasing Gold Bars and Coins

Ecom Express, a tech-driven logistics solutions company, in partnership with the Indian School of Business (ISB) Institute of Data Science, conducted extensive research to gain insights into consumer shopping habits, preferences, and demands across India. Their survey uncovered online shopping patterns across the country, shedding light on prevalent product categories and payment trends.

The research revealed that more than 70% of online purchases in India include clothing, fashion accessories, skincare, and makeup products. It also highlighted variations in the volume of online shoppers across the nation.

Metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai lead the way in online shopping, closely followed by larger cities like Lucknow, Jaipur, and Srinagar. Notably, smaller cities like Kolhapur, Jammu, Azamgarh, and others are showing significant growth in online orders when compared to their population. This indicates that online shopping is gaining momentum, bridging geographical barriers due to limited physical retail presence.

The study also found that Indians prefer to pay for their online purchases upon delivery rather than making prepaid transactions. Cash on Delivery (COD) or Pay on Delivery (POD) is four times more popular than Pre-Paid Delivery (PPD) across India.

Ashish Sikka, Chief Strategy Officer at Ecom Express, emphasized the report’s significance in understanding consumer shopping behaviors and preferences, especially in emerging growth areas. Dipanjan Banerjee, Chief Business Officer at Ecom Express, highlighted the report’s aim to provide valuable insights for online sellers and Direct to Consumer (D2C) brands, aiding their expansion plans by understanding evolving consumer trends and effective strategies like Cash on Delivery handling and data-driven insights.”
