Hyderabad: Govt issues holiday on Sep 9 for offices and educational institutions

On September 9, 2022, i.e., Friday, the Government of Telangana declared a general holiday for Government offices, schools, and colleges in and around Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal districts.

Government officials informed the public that September 12, which is the second Saturday, will be considered a working day in order to compensate for the holiday.

Police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda will be on high alert for Friday’s Ganesh Visarjan (immersion).

Approximately 25,000 policemen will be deployed by the tri commissionerates for security purposes.

During the 10-day festival, 30,000 idols will be immersed in Hussainsagar lake. 31 small ponds and lakes were also arranged by the GHMC and local municipal bodies. To facilitate the immersion of idols, artificial ponds have been arranged.

In view of Friday prayers and the recent detention of Goshamahal legislator T Raja Singh for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed and inciting communal tension in Hyderabad, the police are taking extra safety measures in the south and west zones of the city.

C V Anand, the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, inspected the procession routes at the Charminar on Thursday. There is a Rapid Action Force deployed near Shahalibanda, Charminar, Siddiamber Bazaar, Begum Bazaar, and Tappachabutra to deal with untoward incidents.

It is expected that senior police officials will remain in the old city until the end of Friday prayers when large crowds gather at mosques. Unless it is unavoidable, community elders requested that Muslims attend Friday namaz near their homes and not at mosques along procession routes.

Organizers of Ganesh mandaps linked to the saffron party are being closely monitored by the police in Dhoolpet, Begum Bazaar, Mangalhat, Muqtar Gunj, Gowliguda, Jummerat Bazaar, Shahinayathgunj, and Goshamahal. Supporters of Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh might use the mammoth procession to express their dissent over the MLA’s detention, police suspect.

Closed circuit cameras will be used to monitor the procession at the command and control center, the DGP’s office, and the local police stations.
