The primary objectives of organising this platform are to project the image of the handloom sector and to encourage the sale of handloom fabrics.

The expo will feature state, regional, APEX weavers’ cooperative societies, and handloom development corporations of all the states and the Union Territories across the country will participate in the expo.

“All varieties of Handloom products from all over India will be sold at a rate offered with 20 to 30 percent discount,” said a press release.

PM Modi has neglected handloom industry: KTR

When it comes to the welfare of the handloom industry and workers, KTR said in the Telangana Assembly that the policies made by PM Modi and the NDA Government are senseless.

He added that the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology in Nellore, United Andhra Pradesh, used to be beneficial to Telangana Handloom workers and enthusiasts, but that since the division, such an institute has not been established in the last eight years by the centre.

KTR stated that the Congress government provided Rs.70 crores for the benefit of handloom workers prior to partition, and the BRS government implemented numerous welfare initiatives to support the handloom industry.

He added that, after agriculture, handloom is the most major occupation in India, and that the NDA government has completely ignored them. KTR demanded PM Modi to take back 5% tax on Handlooms and also asked them to not increase it to 12%, as per reports.
