Hyderabad: Kavitha returns from Delhi, meets with father KCR

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha returned from Delhi on Wednesday and drove straight to the residence of her father, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, where she was said to have briefed him on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning in the Delhi excise policy case.

Kavitha arrived at Pragati Bhavan with her husband D. Anil Kumar, brother and minister K.T. Rama Rao, and cousin and minister T. Harish Rao.

While the family was celebrating Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, Kavitha reportedly informed her father about the ED questioning in the national capital on March 20 and 21.

The BRS legislator is said to have told her father about what happened in Delhi over the last three days, the kind of questions asked by the ED and her replies to them.

Chief Minister KCR, Kavitha, KTR, and Harish Rao are also thought to have discussed a strategy for dealing with the BJP, which they believe is using investigative agencies for political gain.

The meeting also reportedly discussed the arguments to be put forward during the hearing, as Kavitha’s petition challenging the ED summons is set for hearing on March 24. The BRS leaders discussed the possibility of the ED summoning her again for questioning.

KCR was said to be keeping a close eye on events in Delhi. He had sent KTR, Harish Rao and other leaders to the national capital to stand by her.

The ED first summoned Kavitha to appear in the Delhi liquor scam on March 9. She had, however, requested that questioning be postponed due to a one-day hunger strike announced by her on March 10 in the national capital in protest of the delay in passing the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

The ED had issued fresh summons asking her to appear on March 11.

On March 11, she was questioned for nine hours. The agency summoned Kavitha again on March 16, but she skipped the hearing citing her pending Supreme Court petition against the ED’s summons until March 24.

The same day, ED issued fresh summons to Kavitha asking her to appear before them on March 20. On March 20, the ED questioned her for over 10 hours. The agency asked her to appear again on March 21.

On March 21, she was questioned for another ten hours at the ED office in Delhi. The date of her next appearance is unknown because the ED has yet to issue summons.
