Hyderabad man shot by carjackers in Chicago, 3rd such incident in December

With news of a Chanchalguda native escaping unhurt in when shots were fired at his car in Chicago, there are reports of another incident taking place with a Hyderabad man in the US city.

According to the statement given by his family members, 43-year-old Mohammed Mujeebuddin suffered bullet injuries after fire was opened at him by 2 men who robbed him at gunpoint.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Monday, his family said.

In a letter addressed to the IT Minister of Telangana KT Rama Rao, the wife of the victim wrote that her husband is admitted at a hospital in Chicago whose doctors have termed his condition as very critical.

Mujeebuddin’s wife, children and mother live in Hyderabad while he is working in the US since the past 5 years.

The wife also told in the letter that she got to know about the troubling incident after her husband’s roommate informed her.

“My entire family is in a state of shock and there is no one to look after my husband. It is requested to ask the Indian Embassy and the Indian Consulate in the US to reach out to him and provide medical aid,” Mr Mujeebuddin’s wife said in the letter.

Requesting the state minister to safeguard the man by providing him medical aid, she also asked for an emergency visa for the family to travel to the US to meet her seriously injured husband.

Amjad Ullah Khan, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader, tweeted the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to help the family by requesting the Indian embassy situated in the US to get to Mr. Mujeebuddin.

The roommate informed the MBT leader that the victim was forced to get down his car while he was driving in the city of Chicago. After Mujeebuddin obliged, the 2 armed men robbed his money and escaped the spot after shooting from behind.

“Mujeebuddin was shot at 11300 block of S Michigan Avenue and has been shifted to the University of Chicago Hospital and is in a critical condition,” MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan said.

The victim hasn’t been to India since the past 5 years.

Jaishankar is expected to reach to the Indian Embassy in New York and Consulate General of India in Chicago in the matter.

On December 19th, there were reports of Mohammed Moizuddin, a resident of Hyderabad, getting killed in an accident after a car rammed into his from the opposite direction in Chicago’s Bucktown.

The Indian Consulate of Chicago has taken up the matter and are in touch with the family to offer the necessary aid, Mr. Khan said.

The 31-year old’s family has requested for emergency visa to go to the US.
