Hyderabad: Nagole flyover near completion, to be inaugurated soon

One more major infrastructure project under the Telangana government’s flagship Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) will be made public soon.

A massive six-lane bi-directional Nagole flyover, costing Rs 143.58 crore, promises to relieve traffic congestion on the Uppal-LB Nagar stretch, one of the busiest routes in eastern Hyderabad.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has completed 90% of the job on the flyover, which is scheduled to open on October 15. 21 of the flyover’s 22 deck slabs have been built. The building of a ramp is currently underway.

According to the GHMC, the 990-m-long and 24-m-wide Nagole flyover would ensure signal-free traffic movement from Uppal to LB Nagar and in the opposite direction, reducing commute time and vehicle operating costs.

On weekdays, a large number of commuters from Uppal travel to LB Nagar and then to Dilsukhnagar, Karmanghat, and Sagar Ring Road. The opposite direction has also been observed.

K Gowtham, a resident of Venkat Reddy Colony in Nagole, said that commuters going to Uppal from LB Nagar and vice versa will benefit from the reduced traffic on the stretch.

Meanwhile, GHMC officials stated that companies were expanding their operations in the city’s eastern outskirts as a result of the State government’s Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy. While this has brought development to those areas, it has also caused traffic congestion.

In addition to well-known companies such as Genpact, others are establishing and expanding their operations in Hyderabad’s eastern outskirts. The Uppal-LB Nagar stretch is particularly congested during shift changes, a GHMC official said.

The Nagole flyover was designed to alleviate traffic congestion and allow for a smooth flow of traffic from the city to other districts via LB Nagar.

The GHMC has undertaken 41 SRDP projects, 30 of which have been completed, including the expansion of the Chandrayangutta flyover. The remaining 11 SRDP projects, which include the construction of flyovers, underpasses, and RoBs to manage the increasing traffic, are in various stages of completion.
