Hyderabad: Online loan app leads to suicide of student in Jiyaguda

Another instance of harassment by an online loan app has surfaced. A student committed suicide after friends began messaging him and calling him over the debt he owed on a loan he had taken out.

The boy hanged himself in his room because he was depressed over the loan he had taken from the app. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Jiyaguda. Authorities identified the victim as Rajkumar.

An online app is believed to have provided Rajkumar with a loan of Rs 12,000. To get the loan, Rajkumar gave his friends’ phone numbers as references. Reports suggest Rajkumar had already paid Rs 4,000. It appears that the loan app holders communicated Rajkumar’s dues to his friends.

As a result, Rajkumar’s friends began calling him concerning the debt that he has not paid and about several calls they are receiving from online loan app companies. Rajkumar could not stand the humiliation anymore, and he took extreme measures.

In the immediate aftermath of Rajkumar’s death, the police shifted his body to a nearby hospital for post-mortem. An investigation has been launched, and police are looking into all possibilities. There is a possibility that they will also try to contact those with online loan apps and question them.

In another case associated with online microloan apps, harassment by online loan sharks had taken the life of a youngster at Amberpet.

M Naresh (28), who was employed as a security guard for a private agency, had hanged himself at his home, police reported.

Due to his addiction to online gaming, Naresh slipped into a financial crisis and availed of loans from instant loan apps to overcome the problem. He was harassed after repayment was delayed, forcing him to kill himself.

A case had been filed at Amberpet police station on the basis of a complaint from his family.
