Hyderabad: Pattana Pragathi programme covered 3,944 slums since its launch

A total of 3,944 slums have been covered by the Pattana Pragathi programme in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits since it started on June 3.

In 255 colonies in Telangana, as part of the programme that seeks to lay a strong foundation for good urban living, sanitation, preventive measures against seasonal diseases, and Telangana Ku Haritha Haram were undertaken. Approximately 7,075 tonnes of garbage and 2,211 tonnes of debris were removed in these localities.

The sanitation and solid waste management activities were undertaken in addition to the demolition of a dilapidated building and the desilting of 12 kilometres of nalas. In addition, 107 water bodies/tanks were cleaned, 139 kilometres of road length were cleared of thorny bushes, and garbage was removed from 47 parks.

The second day of the program brought together a large number of residents, representatives, officials, and committee members to identify civic issues.

All issues have been addressed by GHMC officials. The garbage, construction waste, and green waste were immediately removed from the residential areas, and the GHMC officials conducted an educational campaign on mosquito control by spraying anti-larval measures.

Furthermore, precautionary and preventative measures against seasonal diseases were implemented at 1,00,438 houses, and fogging was conducted at 98,732 houses.

2.704 saplings were planted in public places under the Telangana Ku Haritha Haram activities, and 2,823 saplings were distributed. The GHMC stated in a press release that the Pattana Pragathi programme this year had exceeded the expectations of the civic body.

In order to monitor the progress, quality, and sustainability of public sanitation facilities, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department has developed the Pattana Pragathi Toilet Monitoring System (PPTMS). There will be an inspection of toilets every Tuesday and Friday to check the 18 parameters.
