Hyderabad police advise against believing terror attack rumours

The Hyderabad police on Tuesday advised citizens not to believe rumours after a copy of complaint made against a family alleging that they are affiliated to terror organisations and were planning terror attacks in the city went viral on social media.

According to a press release issued by the Hyderabad police on Tuesday, the content of the complaint was verified, and police teams conducted thorough investigations of the individuals labelled as terrorists in the complaint.

“Earlier two complaints have been lodged in a similar manner against the same family accusing them of being terrorists. Their antecedents were verified and they are not terrorists. They do not have any terrorist links,” said the Hyderabad police.

The police revealed that the family that had to face accusations suspect a woman who is a resident of Delhi and having some issues with the family might have lodged the complaint.

Hyderabad police crackdown on ‘troll’ channels

On Wednesday, the Hyderabad Police announced a crackdown on online ‘troll’ channels and booked 20 cases.

In a press release, the police stated that some youth are posting ‘objectionable, defamatory, and insulting content’ with morphed videos against some public representatives in order to increase their subscribers and TRP rating, thereby earning money.

“Such acts of them attract various penal sections under IPC and Information Technology Act,” they said.

The city police added that the accused sometimes post content which even harms the basic ‘modesty’ of women, just to increase their number of subscribers.

“We have registered about 20 cases recently against the owners/uploaders of various trolling channels, which are spreading objectionable, defamatory and insulting morphed videos against various public representatives. We have traced eight persons and taken necessary legal action against them,” the police informed.

According to the police, the majority of these ‘trollers’ are young men between the ages of 20 and 30 who are either studying or have dropped out of their courses.
