Hyderabad: Police seize ganja worth Rs 2.80 crore, two arrested

Two people were arrested for allegedly transporting ganja, and the Hayathnagar police seized 1,300 kg of ganja, a DCM vehicle, and two mobile phones worth Rs. 2.80 crores from them.

Narendra Harijan (29) and Chandresh Saketh (32), both residents of Hanuman Tehsil in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, were arrested. Two others Penta Rao of East Godavari and Rajesh Kumar of Chattisgarh, who were also involved in the case, are on the run.

According to Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, at the instance of Rajesh, who is an owner of a transport company, two others Harijan and Chandresh went to East Godavari in the DCM and met Penta Rao on October 2 to purchase ganja.

“Penta Rao drove their vehicle into the forest and loaded 1,300 kg of ganja.  To avoid police raids and seizures, ganja is usually stored in a remote location deep within the forest. He handed over the vehicle to Harijan and Chandraseh after loading the ganja,” he stated.

The Hayathnagar police apprehended the duo at Pedda Amberpet junction while they were transporting the consignment to Madhya Pradesh. Efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining two people who have fled.

In September, police seized 77 kg of dry ganja and arrested two people in Bhadrachalam town.

According to Bhadrachalam ASP B Rohith Raj, during a vehicle inspection at the town’s forest check post, SI Madhuprasad and his staff spotted two people carrying the ganja, worth Rs 15 lakh, on a motorcycle and a car.

Banoth Hari of Dubba thanda and Gunde Parasuram Veeraram of Maripeda Bunglow area of Mahabubabad district were taken into custody. They admitted to police that they purchased the ganja from a supplier, Ramu, at the Sileru area in AP in order to sell it to Banoth Pandu Naik and Prakash of Hyderabad.
