Hyderabad: Public to Have Access to Three New Flyovers Shortly

Three new flyovers are set to add momentum to the Telangana government’s plans to redefine the city’s road infrastructure through the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), propelling Hyderabad into the league of world-class cities.

The SRDP has already dotted the city and suburbs with a series of flyovers and underpasses, taking a focused approach and considering long-term scenarios, to solve traffic issues and provide conflict-free vehicular movement. In addition, three new flyovers will be ready for traffic in the coming months.

According to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials, the Nagole flyover will open in October, the Shilpa Layout flyover will be ready by November, and the Kothaguda flyover will be ready by December.

While the Nagole flyover is set to relieve traffic congestion in the city’s eastern sections of the city, which is rapidly expanding due to the State government’s Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy, the Shilpa Layout and Kothaguda flyovers in the bustling IT corridor will relieve congestion at multiple busy junctions.

The Nagole flyover, which is 990 meters long and 24 meters wide, is expected to relieve traffic congestion on the Uppal-LB Nagar stretch as well as in the opposite direction – two of the busiest routes in eastern Hyderabad.

According to Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation officials, several small and medium IT firms are already operating alongside large corporations such as Genpact, 24/7 Customer Pvt Ltd, and several small and medium IT firms are already working from Uppal and its surrounding areas.

The four-lane bi-directional flyover from Shilpa Layout to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Gachibowli Junction is another SRDP project that promises to reduce commute time, and vehicle operating costs, and ensure smooth travel. Some spans of this 823-meter-long and 16.60-meter-wide flyover have been installed 18 meters above ground and placed across the existing Gachibowli crossroad flyover.

The construction of an underpass as part of a multi-level unidirectional flyover crossing Kothaguda and Kondapur Junctions at Botanical Garden is nearing completion. These structures are being built as part of the SRDP.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated multi-level unidirectional Kothaguda flyover will alleviate traffic congestion at three key junctions in the city’s western outskirts: Botanical Garden, Kothaguda, and Kondapur.

These three junctions are currently T-intersections with very little space between them, and traffic jams are worst during peak hours.

Simultaneously, a 470-meter-long, 11-meter-wide underpass is being built along with this flyover. It begins near Harsha Toyota in Kondapur and runs all the way up to Sarath City Capital Mall.
