Hyderabad: Punjagutta police seize Rs 20L unaccountable cash; two held

On Saturday night, during a routine vehicle check at Somajiguda, Punjagutta police seized a total of 20 lakhs identified as unaccountable cash.

The accused were arrested in the discovery after they were caught red-handed carrying the cash in a car.

“On checking the vehicle, we found 20 lakh rupees in a rice bag. The occupants P Venkateshwarlu and Maheshwar Reddy failed to produce any documents which supported the cash. They failed to provide a satisfactory reply on the source of the money and hence the cash was seized,” the police said.

During the investigation, the accused admitted that they worked for a Jitender and were paid a commission on every cash transport.

The police said that on Saturday night, after receiving instructions from Jitender, the accused collected cash from an unidentified person near a local hospital and bagged the money in a car for transport before being apprehended on the way.

The three accused have been booked by the police, but Jitender is yet to be caught.

During a raid on an electrical godown at Ranuja Marketing, the police apprehended the accused. The cash was stored in a bag with a polythene cover. When questioned, the owner of the godown, Kanti Lal, admitted that he was a sub-operator in the hawala business with Jog Singh, the leading operator of the business, who is currently on the run.
