Hyderabad: SCR to undertake upgradation works of Secunderabad Railway Station

The South Central Railway, which has undertaken the upgradation works of Secunderabad Railway Station with world-class facilities at a cost of approximately Rs 699 crore, has awarded the contract with a target completion date of 36 months.

The project was undertaken as part of the Railway’s plans for ‘Redevelopment of Railway Stations’ in order to provide world-class amenities with elegant features and an attractive appearance.

Secunderabad is the only station in the zone classified as NSG1 (Non suburban grade 1), which means it earns Rs 500 crore and serves 20 million passengers per annum. Secunderabad Railway Station handles approximately 200 trains per day, with a daily footfall of 1.8 lakh passengers, which is expected to increase in the coming days.

As a result, SCR has developed a master plan to integrate the station complex with world-class facilities, infrastructure, and passenger amenities to provide rail users with a seamless experience.

The main goal of the upgrade is to redevelop and regenerate the city core area with multi-modal integration and the seamless transfer of passengers from one mode to another mode, improved connectivity and mobility of passengers, convenient pick up and drop off areas, adequate parking facilities, decongest the circulating area, and integrate with the city road network, among other things.

Upgradation works include:

  • A new station building on the north side with G 3 floors and a building on the south side with G 3 floors.
  • A double-story sky concourse and multi-level parking.
  • Multi-level parking on the north side of the station
  • Construction of two walkways (7.5m) along with Travelators
  • Underground parking on the south side
  • Renovation of the existing platforms to match the new station ambiance
  • Provision of a walkway on the north side connecting with skyways of east and west Metro stations
  • Separate entry & exit blocks
  • A solar power plant of 5000 kWp
