Hyderabad: Techie and a student duped into paying Rs 7.91L under the pretext of finding work

Cybercriminals lured two students and an IT professional into part-time jobs on Sunday, allegedly stealing Rs 7.91 lakh. As described in the first incident, the University of Hyderabad’s postgraduate students received a link regarding part-time employment on their smartphones.

In order to apply for the job, the student had to fill out certain details. Following completion of the form, she received a “sign-up bonus” of Rs 101.

It took the student a long time to deposit the total amount of Rs 1.5 lakh in order to gain access to various job plans. When the student realized that the incentives were no longer being credited, the total amount she had paid to the fraudsters had increased to Rs 2,16,300. Upon discovering she had been defrauded, the student filed a complaint with the Cyberabad Police Department.

Likewise, an IT professional who was approached via Whatsapp by a fraudster on the pretext of offering a part-time job also fell victim to the scam. It is alleged that the conman used WhatsApp to send a link to the victim. Due to the fraudster’s deception, the woman lost Rs 5.75 lakh. Both cases have been registered with the Cybercrime branch of Cyberabad, and investigations have begun.

Hyderabad Cybercrime police arrested four Delhi-based cyber fraudsters recently on allegations that they misled two youths by claiming they could arrange jobs with corporate companies.

The police seized all their belongings, including laptops, mobile phones, ATM cards, and SIM cards.

During the first case, the police arrested Nitin Kumar (28) and Karan Kohli (27), who were running a call center and offered a job as senior general manager for 69 lakh rupees.

A few executives had been selected to work with the members to find jobless victims. Over the phone or by email, they collected qualifications and contact information from job portals.

Two individuals were arrested in the second case for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs. 1.74 lakh under the pretense of a job. Rahul Kumar alias Rahul Verma (28) and Prateek Manwar (32) are both in jail. According to the official, the woman had uploaded her resume to a job portal called “shine.com” and was offered an accountant position with a high salary. She had been duped.
