Hyderabad: Traffic diversions till Sept 9 due to Khairatabad Ganesh idol

On Wednesday, August 31, Hyderabad kicked off Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with the installation of the massive Khairatabad Ganesh statue.

Due to this, there will be traffic diversions throughout Hyderabad from August 31 to September 9 due to the installation of the 11-foot Ganesh statue, the Telangana police department announced on Tuesday, August 30. According to the police, diversions will be in place from 11 am until late at night depending on the number of visitors.

The traffic coming from Rajiv Gandhi Statue towards Mint Compound will be diverted to Nirankari Junction. Rajdoot lane traffic towards Bada Ganesh will be diverted to Rajdoot lane traffic towards Iqbal Minar. Meanwhile, traffic from Mint Compound towards Imax Theatre will be diverted towards Telugu Talli junction.

Mint Compound traffic will be diverted to Telugu Talli junction or Khairatabad junction from Necklace Rotary. Khairatabad Post Office lane traffic will be diverted towards Old PS Saifabad junction from Khairatabad Railway gate.

In addition, the police provided a list of places where traffic congestion might occur and asked commuters to avoid them. Khairatabad, Shadan College, Nirankari, Old PS Saifabad, Mint Compound, and Necklace Rotary were among them.

Visitors to the Ganesh statue through Necklace Rotary and NTR Garden should park their cars beside Imax Theatre, NTR Ghat, and NTR Garden parking areas, or opposite IMAX on school grounds. It was recommended that visitors coming in their own vehicles come through Necklace Rotary and avoid Khairatabad Junction Road and Rajdoot Lane.

To reach their destinations, citizens were requested to take alternate routes and cooperate with the Hyderabad Traffic Police.

Every year, the Khairatabad Ganesh idol is constructed in Khairatabad in Hyderabad and is known for its height. On the 11th day of Ganesh Chaturthi, thousands of devotees visit Hussain Sagar Lake to immerse the idol.
