Hyderabad: TSRTC promotes public transportation through awareness campaign

In order to educate citizens about the benefits of public transportation, an awareness campaign on why to choose Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses was held at various locations throughout the city, with a focus on the outer parts.

Cultural groups used their performances to raise awareness about the differences between public transportation and private services. They emphasized that taking public transportation will get you to your desired destination, more safely and at a lesser price.

According to officials, there has been an increasing footfall to the TSRTC, which is directly proportionate to the increase in revenue of the corporation.

Double-decker buses in Hyderabad

The iconic double-decker buses, once the glory of the city, may soon make a comeback, with the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) planning to introduce electric double-decker buses on a hire basis in Hyderabad.

Though plans to reintroduce the once-popular double-decker service on Hyderabad roads have been in the works for some time, it has yet to take off. Now, the TSRTC’s plans make it the country’s first road transport organization to hire e-double-decker buses.

The corporation will hire ten e-double-decker buses to run on three different routes in the city. A tender notice in this regard is expected to be issued within a week.

Companies interested in plying these buses will be invited to register bids, and the bid winning company will have to enter into an agreement with the corporation to supply these buses on a rental basis, according to TSRTC officials. The corporation will pay a fixed rent based on the company’s charges.

As each electric double-decker costs approximately Rs 2.2 crore, the RTC management has decided to hire them first. It may plan to own them in the future, depending on feedback and treasury funds.
