Hyderabad: Water supply to be provided to 978 colonies within ORR by March 2023

Water supply works to nearly 978 colonies located outside the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) are expected to be completed by March 2023.

Dana Kishore, Managing Director (MD) of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), stated on Friday that the entire project will be completed before the March 2023 deadline. “While the construction of reservoirs is underway, the water distribution network will be built simultaneously so that there are no delays in the prestigious project,” Dana Kishore, during a review of the HMWS&SB-ORR Phase-II project, said.

As part of the Phase-II project, the Water Board has already completed providing drinking water supply to 149 colonies, with the remaining 829 colonies expected to get water supply by March 2023.

The State government proposed the ORR Phase-II project to address the decades-old issue of water scarcity faced by people living outside GHMC and within the ORR jurisdiction. Even before statehood, residents of these colonies demanded that the issue of water scarcity be resolved once and for all.

The Telangana government approved an administrative sanction of Rs 1,200 crore to put an end to the water crisis in these areas, and the Water Board is carrying out the work.

Under the HMWS&SB ORR Phase-II Project, new water connections have been provided in Manikonda, Quthbullapur, Ghatkesar, and Keesara, in addition to increasing water supply.

Saroornagar, Rajendra Nagar, Ibrahimpatnam, and Shamshabad are among the other mandals where work is being done.

Storage reservoirs with a capacity of 137 million liters are being constructed in Shameerpet, Ghatkesar, Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, and Bollarum. A new pipeline network of 2,864 km is being laid as part of this project, which will benefit over six lakh people, according to a water board official.

The Water Board has set up camps in the colonies that are supplied with drinking water to further strengthen the drinking water supply network in these areas and ensure that all households have a water connection. The new water connections can also be obtained by visiting the Water Board’s website at https://www.hyderabadwater.gov.in/en/.
