Hyderabad: Woman commits suicide by jumping into Durgam Cheruvu

In a tragic incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Durgam Cheruvu on Saturday. Her mortal remains were recovered by police and transferred to Osmania Hospital for post-mortem.

She is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, according to the police. According to police, she may have committed suicide due to health issues. A case has been filed and an investigation is underway to determine the exact reason for the woman’s suicide.

As part of its efforts to monitor activities in and around Durgam Cheruvu, the Cyberabad police commissionerate in Hyderabad has placed CCTV cameras.

It was equipped with over 60 CCTV cameras to monitor Durgam Cheruvu round-the-clock, as well as a lake police unit with 10 to 20 officers patrolling daily and a patrol boat and battery-powered bikes. The shore of the lake was also adorned with a watch tower. Suicides and other untoward incidents can be prevented with the patrol boat.

In April also, a 17-year-old boy’s body was discovered in Durgam Cheruvu lake, following a search operation conducted by Madhapur police in and around the lake since Thursday.

It was reported that the deceased, identified as B Nikhil Kumar, took his own life by jumping from the cable bridge into Durgam Cheruvu. Sunil Kumar, Nikhil’s father, became concerned when he did not return home for an extended period of time and his phone was turned off.

A suicide note in the boy’s bag stated that he planned to jump into the lake. Sunil Kumar notified the police, who launched a search with the assistance of disaster management personnel.

Later, the body was recovered from the lake and sent for a post-mortem before being returned to Nikhil’s family. Nikhil stated in his suicide note that he holds no one responsible for his decision.
