Immediate care can reduce Cardiac Arrest Deaths

Hyderabad : Only 1 in 10 person survives a cardiac arrest. We can improve the survival rate by providing immediate care to a person during cardiac arrest. Remember the three simple steps – Call 108 early, start chest compressions early and shift to nearest medical facility as early as possible. Apart from calling 108 and shifting to nearest medical facility, performing chest compressions early has proved to be a game changer in this emergency situation. Hence one need to learn the correct technique of chest compressions to save the lives.

In order to spread awareness about such an important life saving technique and also provide basic training on the same, Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) and Indian Resuscitation Council (IRC) has initiated a campaign by to create awareness about resuscitation in the public. The aim is to train 1,00,000 people all over the country today in Compression-only life support (COLS). Anybody can take part, including school children beyond 8th grade. Joining the campaign and in order to train the public at large in chest compression technique, Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital has organized training sessions through special demonstrations by expert doctors at a unique event arranged at Main Entrance of KBR Park today.

Using live and artificial models, the expert doctors team lead by Dr Basanth Rayani, HOD, Anesthesiology, BIACH&RI and Dr Vibhavari Naik, Consultant Anesthesilogist have demonstrated the technique to the public at large. The demonstration that started at 6.30 AM has continued until 8.30 PM thus enabling public to understand and learn the technique. Some practice sessions were also organised at the venue with volunteers so that public can gain practical knowledge of the same. During the demonstrations, doctors also clarified several doubts raised by those attending the sessions.   Further the hospital has also organised a day long training session from 10 AM to 4 PM in the hospital premises.

Speaking on this occasion Dr TS Rao, Medical Director, Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute has urged upon the public to learn these basic steps to save a life. He called upon the people to join the campaign in large number and be a part of this movement today thus creating – A lifesaver in every home. Further elaborating on the effort undertaken by the Hospital, Dr RV Prabhakar Rao, CEO, BIACH&RI has explained the need to have basic knowledge on emergency procedures. He opined that a person with such knowledge can save precious lives during such situations created by stroke by providing first aid immediately. Having one such person in a house hold can save a life, he added.
