In UP 173 files of weapon licenses go missing; Clerk dismissed

A government clerk was fired after the files of 173 people, including late Bhartiya Janata Party minister Kamal Rani Varun and slain gangster Vikas Dubey, were discovered missing.

The SIT discovered that the files pertaining to the weapon licence were missing during the investigation of Vikas Dubey’s weapons, who was accused of killing eight police officers in Bikru in July 2020 and was later killed in a police encounter.

Following that, the case was turned over to the CB-CID for investigation. During the investigation, the Kotwali police filed a charge sheet in the court against the clerk, Vijay Rawat.

Around eight years ago, 200 files were brought from the Kanpur Dehat Collectorate’s weapon section. One hundred and seventy-three of these files were lost. The matter was allegedly then suppressed.

When the police officers were killed in Bikru, the investigation into Vikas Dubey’s and his associates’ weapons licences began.

In its investigation report, the SIT requested that a case be registered against accused clerk Vijay Rawat and turned over the investigation to the CB-CID.

The CB-CID is looking into the matter. The police have also filed a charge sheet, and the district magistrate has now dismissed the clerk.

ADM City Atul Kumar also confirmed that the clerk was fired in this matter.
