India vs England: Sam Curran replaces brother Tom Curran in ODI squad

The paceman’s younger brother, Sam Curran, has been named as a replacement for the 50-over format.

A left side strain injury has ruled Tom Curran, the England paceman, out of the limited-overs leg of India’s tour, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Tuesday, 3 July.

The right-arm seamer was recently named in England’s Twenty20 International squad for a three-match series against the Asian side with his younger brother, Sam.

Tom was expected to be fit before the second T20I but was later ruled out of the series.

While Dawid Malan, the England batsman, had been earlier called up as a cover for Tom for the T20I leg, Sam, who was not originally named in the one-day international squad, has now been drafted in as a replacement for his brother for the three-match ODI series.

Chris Woakes, another of England’s quicks, also wasn’t named in the T20I and ODI squads as he is still recovering from a torn right quad and a long-standing knee injury, but he is expected to return in the later part of the ODI series.

Tom will be commencing his rehabilitation programme at The Oval under the supervision of Surrey and England’s medical teams from Wednesday 4 July.
