India will become One Trillion Economy if female workforce participation increases

Hyderabad: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Telangana in collaboration with IMT Hyderabad organized the Telangana Skills Summit with the theme ‘Unleashing the Future of Skills & Workplaces’ on 20 February 2021 on a Virtual platform.

The objective of the Skills Summit was to deliberate on the new trends in skills and workplaces, how do we get the students ready for global markets, and the role of academic institutions. While addressing the conference, Dr. Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation in his keynote address said that in COVID times, learning through digital platforms has become important we all have to work together to bridge the digital gap and ensure universal accessibility.

Through the Skill India platform, NSDC has shortlisted 600 job roles and providing training in 400 courses in 11 languages.

There are many online courses and platforms offering high-quality training. He also mentioned that there is a need to increase the female workforce participation and India could become a One trillion-dollar economy if the current level of 23% increased by 43% and Covid has proved that many jobs could be performed while working from homes.

Navneet Mishra, Vice President & General Manager, Hexagon Capability Centre India said that students should focus on finding solutions to real-life problems. He also urged that faculty and students could break the problems into small and solve them. He also said that now self-learning is important be it in educational institutions or in organizations.

Dr. Sriharsha Reddy, Dean, IMT-Hyderabad said that in the current times be the employees and students need to reskill and upskill themselves on regular basis for future jobs.

Ganesh Chandan, Chief HR Officer, TATA Projects said that there was a fixed notion earlier that all employees need to be present at one place bit new normal is a large remote workforce and it would be a distributed workforce. Now all workforce need to learn effectively learning with people and ensure to deliver the expected outcomes even while working remotely.

Traditional business systems are changing and many HR functions have changed drastically. Technology and outcome-based supervision are going to drive future businesses.

David Kwee, Founder & CEO, Training Vision Institute, Singapore said that the global higher education sector is changing rapidly and through online platforms, the students can have access to the best-in-class faculty.

Prateek Parashar, Technology Leader, Oracle briefed about AI in business and emerging technologies in IT Sector.

Komaraiah, Co-Convenor, Education & skills panel, CII Telangana & Chairman, DPS Secunderabad delivered the opening address.

The conference was also addressed by  Parul Sharma, HR Head, Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles, Richard King, Regional Head- Academic Interface program, TCS, Prof. V Venkataramana, Co-Convenor, Education & Skills Panel, CII Telangana & Vice Chairman, Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) and  Shrikant Sinha, CEO, TASK, Prof. Kalyan Chejerla and  Prakash Pathak from IMT Hyderabad.
