New Delhi: In the midst of news encircling the mission to boycott Chinese products in the country, the Indian government has signed up for a new profile on the infamous Chinese music app, TikTok.

The update which has come as a shock shows the Indian government creating its official account on the app. It runs with the username ‘mygovindia’ on TikTok and currently has over 880k followers.

During the boycott campaign, in a spite to cease the use of China-made applications, users had posted reviews and ratings to defame the app. The Google Play Store rating showed a high fall from the 4.4 rating to 1.2 due to this. Filtering out the fake reviews, Google restored the 4.4 rating of the app.

As soon as the account was created, many fake profiles were made going around with the usernames, mygovindia20, india.gov.in, mygovindia2, mygovindia4, mygovindia5, etc.
To differentiate between the real and fake accounts, one has to demark the verified batch or tick which accompanies the username. Along with this, the bio of the official account mentions, ‘Citizen engagement platform of Government of India.’ Moreover, the account has already crossed 6.4 million likes over the videos it has posted and isn’t following any account.

India had also launched its own mobile application which was very similar to TikTok called ‘Mitron’. Google soon removed it from its Play Store as it violated its spam and minimum functionality policy.

“Use your wallet power. #BoycottMadeInChina #SoftwareInAWeekHardwareInAYear to stop Chinese bullying in Ladakh and eventually to liberate the 1.4 billion bonded labourers in China, as also the 10 million Uighur Muslims and 6 million Tibetan Buddhists,” Wangchuk said in a tweet along with the video.
