IndiGo launches installment-wise payment option for flight tickets

New Delhi: To compensate and reduce its loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian airline IndiGo set in motion its ‘flex’ pay feature on Thursday.

With this attractive flex pay option, passengers can book their tickets with an advance payment of 10% of the total fees. The rest can be postponed for up to a time period of 15 days either from the booking date or before the departure date, according to the airline. Currently, this payment feature is available for domestic flights.

For example, for a Delhi-Mumbai round trip flight, the minimum flex pay would be around ₹800 for one passenger.

In its statement, the airlines said, “Whilst making the payment of the balance amount corresponding to the booking where a customer has exercised the ‘Flex Pay Option’, the ‘Flex Pay Payment’ paid by the customer upfront will be adjusted against the total booking amount.”

Due to the reduced number of flights in light of the regulations imposed by the government, Indigo offers presently almost 350 commercial flights per day.

The airline is also using 10 aircrafts for operations related to cargo.

“We intend to extend this offer for our customers to make their travel more comfortable. Our endeavour is to deliver a hassle-free experience, from the time the customer opens our website to book a ticket until the time they reach their destination. The convenience of customers always matters for us, even in these times, whilst our safety remains the biggest priority for us,” said the airline’s chief strategy and revenue officer Sanjay Kumar.

IndiGo says that after the payment of the initial amount, the seat will be put on “flex” down. Once the full payment is done, the ticket. will be confirmed.

Clarifying doubts and explaining the new option, IndiGo said in its statement, “For example, the minimum flex pay payment for a Delhi-Mumbai round trip for 4 passengers will be, 2 segments x 4 passengers x Rs 400 = Rs 3,200. While making the payment of the balance amount corresponding the booking where a customer has exercised the flex pay option, the payment made by the customer upfront will be adjusted against the total booking amount.”

However, it should be noted that the initial 10 percent paid is nonrefundable. This means that if by any chance a passenger decides not to board the flight or confirm the ticket, this charge will not be refunded to him.

During these tough times, the airlines has launched this feature to increase sales and its revenue after heavy losses incurred during the pandemic.
