Intensifying war within Telangana Congress sees 13 members resigning

Internal disputes in the Congress party’s Telangana unit took a dramatic turn on Sunday, with 13 Congress leaders, most of whom joined the party from the Telugu Desam Party and were recently appointed to party posts, resigning in protest of senior party leaders’ behavior.

They sent a joint resignation letter to Manickam Tagore, the AICC’s Telangana in-charge. Following the resignation, the party’s top leadership dispatched three AICC secretaries to Hyderabad to resolve the matter.

A Revanth Reddy, president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), called a preparatory meeting on the ‘Hath se Hath Jodo Yatra’ on Sunday at Gandhi Bhavan. However, none of the senior leaders who participated in a meeting at CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka’s residence on Saturday turned up. Following this, 13 leaders resigned from their positions, including supporters of Revanth Reddy who had previously joined Congress from the TDP.

They stated that if their positions were an issue for the disgruntled senior leaders, they were willing to give up the posts in order to keep the party united. Mulugu MLA Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka, Vem Narender Reddy, Vijay Rama Rao, C Venkatesh, and Yerra Sekhar are among the leaders who have resigned.

They stated in their four-page resignation letter that internal party bickering was sending the wrong message to the people of the state and would harm the party’s prospects in the forthcoming Assembly polls next year. “For us, bringing the party to power in the State is more important than posts,” they said.

Infighting in Telangana Congress Comes to Fore During Voting

On Saturday, senior leaders revolted against Revanth Reddy and announced a ‘Save Congress’ plan, intensifying the party’s internal conflict. Senior leaders, including N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Madhu Goud Yashki, and Damodar Raja Narasimha, met at Bhatti Vikramarka’s residence and claimed that the majority of recent appointees to party committees were outsiders and former TDP leaders. Even Revanth Reddy, who succeeded Uttam Kumar Reddy in 2021, was with the TDP till 2017.

There was also a lot of discontent among leaders at the time of his appointment about how a newcomer was given the top position over veterans.

However, the most recent provocation was when the high command approved committees last week, including executive and political affairs committees, in which many seniors were not included.

Senior leaders Malreddy Ranga Reddy, Addanki Dayakar, and others took strong exception to the senior leaders’ behaviour, with Dayakar claiming that the senior leaders were unfairly targeting Revanth Reddy and weakening the party. TPCC vice president Mallu Ravi stated that it was an internal matter that would be resolved soon.
