IPS trainee suspended for harassing wife

Hyderabad: The Union Home Ministry has suspended IPS trainee K V Maheshwar Reddy for allegedly torturing his wife Bhavana Birudula, who lodged a complaint against the former with the Jawahar Nagar police station.

The police registered an FIR against Maheshwar Reddy on October 27 under Sections 498-A, 323, 506 IPC & 3(1), 3®, 3(s), 3(2)(V)(a) of SC/ST POA Act. On receipt of communications from the UPSC, National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy, the Union Home Ministry Hyderabad KV Maheswara Reddy under suspension.

The competent authority, in view of the criminal case pending investigation and trial against the IPS trainee, decided to suspend the offer of appointment dated December 2, 2019, till further order. However, after getting cleared from criminal proceedings, the offer of appointment will be reviewed by the ministry and thereafter he will be able to join the basic training course at SVPNPA, Hyderabad without loss of seniority.

A native of Kadapa district, Maheshwar Reddy achieved 126th rank in Civils and got elected for IPC. He has completed preliminary training in Missouri. While studying Engineering in the Osmania University, Mahendar Reddy reportedly made friendship with Bhavana Birudula of Keesara and married her in the office of Sub-Registrar of Marriages in February last year after an eight-year love affair.

In her complaint to police, Bhavana Birudula alleged that Maheshwar Reddy, after being selected for IPS, was planning to divorce her and marry another woman.
