Italy Introduces Green Pass For Tourism Sector Boost

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi recently announced that they would be issuing “green pass” to certify the people who have not been infected by the Covid 19. The system was operational within hours after the PM announced it on Thursday.

Green Pass Is Open Only To The Italian Residents

As per the latest reports, the green pass is open only to the Italian residents. It would produce a unique QR code that a holder can have on their smartphone. The “green pass” would certify that the holder has been vaccinated against Covid 19 or they have recovered from the infection in the past six months or they recently tested negative against Covid 19.

For the ones who don’t have smartphones, the Green Pass can also be printed.

At the same time, the European Union is also set to produce their own version of “green pass”. The issuing of the same would start from July 1, 2021. The one who qualifies for the Italy green pass will also qualify for the EU version of the pass once the system becomes operational.

The move towards “green pass” comes as an effort to restart the tourism sector in the country. The tourism sector accounts for more than 13 percent of Italy’s gross domestic product (GDP) as per the data released in 2019.

However, ever since the pandemic hit, the figure dropped to just 0.7 percent in 2020.

Green Pass Will Remain Valid For Nine Months

The new “green pass” will only be available for the people who qualify based on their health status. Registration is available free of cost and the forms are available in Italian, English, French and German. More languages will be added in future.

The “green pass” will be valid for nine months since the last vaccine dose. In case of a negative test report, a 48 hours report will be valid. And if the person has already been infected with Covid, then they must have recovered within six months.

The certificate will remain valid for nine months after the last vaccine dose, for 48 hours after a negative test, and for six months after recovery.
