Jet Airways all set to resume domestic & international flights from 2022

Reviving from a massive downfall, Jet Airways is geared up to begin its operations from early next year. As per the company’s announcement made today, the airlines will resume its domestic flights- the first to be flown from New Delhi to Mumbai.

While the domestic operations start from the first quarter of 2022, international flights are scheduled to get resumed from the second half of 2022.

Jet Airways further said in its statement that the existing Air Operator Certificate (AOC) is under process to get revalidated. This is in line with the plans the airline owners had planned

The process of reviving the grounded carrier is on track with the existing Air Operator Certificate (AOC) already under process for revalidation, the company said in a statement.

Speaking about the business plan of the airline, Murari Lal Jalan, USE businessman, lead member of the London-based Jalan Kalrock Consortium and the proposed Non-Executive Chairman of Jet Airways said, “Jet Airways 2.0 aims at restarting domestic operations by Q1-2022, and short-haul international operations by Q3/Q4 2022. Our plan is to have 50+ aircraft in 3 years and 100+ in 5 years which also fits perfectly well with the short-term and long-term business plan of the Consortium.”

Calling it a “historic journey”, Mr Jalan said that the reviving process of Jet Airways is the first of its kind in the history of Aviation as it was grounded for over 2 years.

The collapse of Jet Airways landed thousands of people out of jobs with the company drowned in billions of rupees in debt. Though it was once the biggest private carrier in India, the airline was forced to shut down its operations in April 2019 due to the heavy losses it incurred. In June 2021, the National Companies Law Tribunal (NCLT) gave the green light to JA’s revival plan.

With the company kickstarting a new chapter, it is working on slot allocation, airport infrastructure, night parking and more with airport coordinators and authorities to bring things on track. The debts too will be settled according to the plan, the company said. This was months after the creditors of the airline had approved the revival plan given in October 2019.

The refreshed version of Jet Airways will have its headquarters in Delhi NCR. Another corporate office will be set up in Gurgaon where the senior management will be working.

The acting CEO, Captain Gaur, said that a major division of the airline will be in Mumbai, “Jet Airways will continue to have a strong and significant presence in Mumbai where it will work from its ‘Global One’ office in Kurla. Jet Airways also has a state-of-the-art training centre located at Global One, which will be retained and used for in-house training for the Jet Airways team.”

Domestic operations will begin after an all-narrow body aircraft fleet is leased, he said, adding that over 150 full-time employees have already been hired to work with the payroll department while 1000+ more people will be recruited in the FY 2021-2022 for the various departments. This will be on a strict merit basis in a phased manner, he concluded saying.
