Kanhaiya Kumar Summoned By Court in JNU Sedition Case

Former JNU Students Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and nine others will now appear in front of the court on March 15, 2021. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Pankaj Sharma will take the case further.

JNU Case Moves Foward After One Year Of Delhi Police Sanctions

As per the reports, the Delhi government granted the permission to the Delhi Police to prosecute the accused a year back. And the cognisance has been taken to the court now. The accused include the JNU Students Kanhaiya Kumar, Aquib Hussain, Mujeeb Hussain, Anirban Bhattacharya, Umar Gul, Umar Khali, Bashir Bhat, Rayeea Rassol and Basharat Ali.

A 1200 pages long charge sheet was filed against the accused. As per the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), from the messages retrieved were sent to Umar Khalid and Kanhaiya Kumar to come at the Sabarmati Dhaba at JNU. This comes after the University administration refused to permit them to hold the protests.

The final pages of the charge sheet also confirmed the presence of the other students at the location.

JNU Students Charged With Sedition Case

The former JNU student leader, Kanhaiya Kumar reportedly led a ‘seditious slogans” at the campus on February 9, 2016 during an protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru who was convicted in  2001 Indian Parliament attack.

Earlier, the matter was adjourned on multiple occasions because of the pending sanction from the government. However, the Delhi Police got the sanctions last year and submitted a charge sheet. In the charge sheet, the Delhi police presented the court with video footages of Kanhaiya Kumar where he was seen raising “anti-national slogans” in the University campus. In the videos, he was identified as Kanhaiya Kumar by various witnesses a well. Furthermore, they traced the location of a mobile phone at the place of the event.

The accused JNU students face charges under the IPC sections 124A (sedition), 323 (causing hurt on purpose), 465 (act of forgery), 471(using a forged document), 143, 146 (rioting), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 149 (unlawful assembly).

Kanhaiya Kumar Meets Bihar CM’s Aide

As per the latest reports, Kanhaiya Kumar recently met Ashok Choudhary, a key aide for the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Sources suggest that the meet was non-political and they both have reportedly known each other for a very long time. However, this has sparked reactions from the ones who hold strong nationalism views.
