Lakhs of People Benefited from ‘ Kanti Velugu’

Hyderabad  : As many as 1.43 crore people have utilized the ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme launched by the Telangana State Government nearly four months ago, to ensure that no one in the State suffered from eye diseases.

According to official sources, eye screening camps were conducted in 8675 villages and 800 Municipal wards in the Sate so far.  Of the people screened, reading glasses were given free of cost to 21,63,391 people, while special spectacles were prescribed for 16,88,727 persons.  Another 8,79,446 people were referred for treatment of eye ailments.

Yesterday alone, 78,176 persons have undergone the eye screening across the State. Of them, 5,363 were given reading glasses free of cost, while special glasses were prescribed for 5,582 persons, and another 3,862 were referred for treatment.

The Kanti Velugu programme was hailed by lakhs of people across the State, as eye screening, supply of glasses and treatment are totally free, and it was benefiting lakhs of people, particularly the poorer sections of the society.

Needless to say, this eye screening programme was one among the many welfare measures launched by the State Government which fetched huge support from the people in the recent State Assembly elections.  (NSS)
