As per the latest reports, the Center has supported the Madhya Pradesh government’s proposition to rename the Hoshangabad area as Narmadapuram and a Babai town as Makhan Nagar, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

Hoshangabad, which is situated on the southern banks of waterway Narmada, is 70 km from the state capital Bhopal. It is famous for its delightful ghats along the banks of the stream Narmada. A Satsang Bhavan on the bank of the waterway is consistently visited by Hindu holy people who hold religious talks on Ramcharitmanas and the Bhagavad Gita.

Prior it used to be called Narmadapur and was subsequently named Hoshangabad after Hoshang Shah Gori, the principal leader of the Malwa Sultanate.
